MYANMAR

Known as the “Land of the Golden Pagodas,” many of the magnificent ancient temples still remain. Myanmar is mostly an agrarian society that moves at a quiet and gentle speed in contrast to much of the outside world. Its people are gracious, charming and thoroughly enchanting. In spite of decades of military rule, the people continue to live quiet lives as devotees of Buddha. Food offerings are provided to the monks, many of them as young as six, as they make their way each morning through the villages. For villagers, filling the rice bowls with a daily ration is an act of selflessness and an unspoken commitment to their faith.
