THAILAND

I have been to Thailand many times, and in particular, to Bangkok, a pulsating international gateway city. Bangkok is Thailand’s home to some of the world’s most beautiful and historic Asian treasures. However, most of Thailand is agricultural, and the provinces of Chang Mai, Chang Rai and Mae Hong Son are populated by exotic hill tribes migrating into northern Thailand from Burma, Laos and China during the last century.

Each group has its own language, customs, style of dress and religion. Even the subgroups may differ from one another. Many of these tribes, especially the Hmong and Karan, receive much attention from tourists. I found the tribal people to be friendly and hospitable, and I hope that they will be able to retain their own unique identities in the midst of their challenges and opportunities.
